Vesuvian Earrings

Inspired by ancient designs, reimagined for modern times.

A handcrafted pair of earrings combined with delicate 14k gold filled chain and vintage freshwater Pearls, inspired by a typical Roman designThe originals were made in the first century A.D., during the Early Imperial period of ancient Rome, which had the pendants made up of one, two or three pearls, which produced a pleasant tinkling when they collided with each other.

The style was named from the Greek word for rattle or castanets, because the pearl pendants would produce a jingling noise when worn. Earrings of this type were extremely popular with Roman ladies and numerous examples have been found at Pompeii and Herculaneum. Each pair is one of a kind and each pearl will vary slightly.
